Lone Star Governance
The Texas Education Agency defines its Lone Star Governance (LSG) as a continuous-improvement model for governing teams (Boards in collaboration with their superintendents), who choose to focus intensely on only one primary objective: Improving student outcomes. LSG is an optional, first-of-its-kind training initiative. For more detailed information about LSG and its model, visit the TEA website at Texas Education Agency – Lone Star Governance.
The intention of the Lone Star Governance is to provide coaching and support, through a continuous-improvement framework, for school governing teams that choose and commit to intensively focusing on the objective to improve student outcomes. Lone Star Governance accomplishes this intense focus through tailored coaching aligned to the five pillars of the Texas Framework for School Board Development, as adopted by the State Board of Education: Vision and Goals, Progress and Accountability, Systems and Processes, Advocacy and Engagement, and Synergy and Teamwork. In addition to the primary focus on improving student outcomes, Lone Star Governance provides systems for governing legal and fiscal
responsibilities.
The Edgewood ISD Board of Trustees has adopted three Student Outcome Goals with a series of goal progress measures to track the progress toward each goal. For detailed information on each goal progress measure, please visit our website at Edgewood ISD-Board Policy Code-AE (EXHIBIT).
Goal 1: The percent of students in grades K-3 reading on or above grade level will increase from 54% to 64% by June 2022 (baseline measure May 2017).
Goal 2: The percent of students in grades 3 - Algebra 1 meeting the standard on STAAR mathematics will increase from 66% to 76% by June 2023 (baseline measure - 2018 STAAR Mathematics.
Goal 3: The College, Career, and Military Readiness Scaled Score will increase from 61 to 82 by June 2023 (baseline measure Class of 2017 reported in 2018).
